CLIMBING CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Adventure Play (45min) - age 5
Introduction to climbing through games and adventure activities. Students will be become familiar with gear and "lingo" along with the very basic techniques of climbing and bouldering. There is a strong focus on understanding the safety rules and the importance of communication and cooperation when climbing which will enable these young climbers to build up there confidence.
Goals:
Able to climb to the top of the wall with self confidence
Able to put on their own climbing harness
Understanding of importance of safety
Knowledge of basic climbing terms
Climbstars (1 hour) - ages 6 and up
Beginner class for children with little or no previous climbing experience. Students will be introduced to basic climbing, bouldering, and belaying techniques. They will also learn the "lingo" and the use of gear. There is a strong focus on safety rules and the mastery of two basic very important knots. The students will build upper body strength and increase their coordination as they are encouraged to climb to the top of the wall!
Goals:
Know knots - figure eight and double fisherman’s
Able to climb to top of wall with self confidence
Understanding of safety rules
Knowledge of equipment, able to put on own harness
Basic understanding of belaying system
Dynoclimb (1hour) Intermediate class - ages 6-8
This is an intermediate class for young who have already mastered the basic skills. Students will build their upper body strength and coordination as they are introduced to new specific climbing and bouldering techniques. Introduction of new "lingo" and gear and knots. The importance of safety, cooperation and communication will be constantly reinforced as the students develop their belaying skills.
Goals:
Able to belay with a partner
Knowledge of required knots
Mastery of all basic climbing terminology
Able to do a 5.7,5.8 climb
Understanding all safety rules
Superclimbstars (1 ½ hour) - ages 8 and up
Intermediate class for children who have completed Climbstars or have personal climbing experience. Students will expand their knowledge and understanding of the use of gear and "lingo" as they develop their climbing, bouldering and belaying techniques. Emphasis on the importance of conditioning and stretching exercises in order to enhance climbing ability. Cooperation, communication, and safety rules will continue to be reinforced as the students learn their knots and are introduced to the rescue system.
Goals:
Minimum of 5.9 climb
Mastery of 3 knots
Understanding of all safety rules
Able to belay with a Gri-Gri
Knowledge of all basic "lingo" and use of gear
